Alas, my blog has fallen behind. Between my new job in Austin (woohoo!) and operating Vancouver Food Tour, I have little free time left.
I’m absolutely pooped by the end of most days and somehow manage to drag my butt to boot camp. Between all of that, we still try to cook and entertain as much as possible. (See what I’m eating on Instagram). I can’t complain though – at least we don’t have children! I really don’t know how these super-parents do it.
But enough about me, let’s get to the food.
Last week, the highly anticipated Sway, a modern Thai restaurant, opened in Austin TX. The team is the same talent behind La Condesa, one of my favourite destinations for modern interior Mexican food and cocktails. I was skeptical initially about how Jesse Herman and Rene Ortiz would pull off an entirely different genre. After tasting many of their dishes, I am glad to report that Sway is the real deal – they’re not messing around in there.
Check out my article “First Look: Sway in Austin“ on Serious Eats for a slideshow and the works.
I was especially excited about the desserts at Sway because Laura Sawicki is a brilliant alchemist in the pastry kitchen. She incorporated many of my most-loved Asian flavours into her dessert menu such as black sesame, calamansi, yuzu, sweetened condensed milk, and even miso. I’d go back just for the desserts alone.
So yup, head on over to the article to see more.
