I perk up like a puppy that hears the mailman approaching when my husband texts me 2 simple words:
“Happy Hour?”
And that’s exactly what happened last week.
When I got the text, I quickly hopped into a cute dress and fixed my hair. Since we were attending a composting class at City Hall, we decided to head to La Condesa, which was right across the street.
Their happy hour menu is pretty killer – all craft cocktails and appetizers are 50% off. Below are some of the more memorable items that we ordered.

Chicharrones with salsa verde, tuna tostadas with avocado and micro cilantro, Elotes Estilo (Mexican grilled street corn), Perrito de Sal cocktail
The best part about their happy hour is, of course, the fantastic Mexican style cocktails. Nate Wales, the bar manager, loves to mix fresh juices with obscure, housemade concoctions such as calimocho and tepache. The drinks are culinary inspired, have just the right touch of sweetness, and pair seamlessly with the tasty bar menu.

Alma Blanca, made with muddled corn, harbanero infused tequila, and dressed with a hibiscus salt rim
I’ve compiled 5 Mexican cocktail recipes from La Condesa on Serious Eats so that you and I can make them at home too. While they are relatively straight forward recipes, he does challenge the home bartender to get their hands dirty and make some housemade ingredients. This season’s cocktails involved a lot of ginger, which I adore. Give them a try and let me know what you think!
