Cocktail Writing and Photography in Vancouver BC and Austin TX: Whiskey Cocktails at Haddington’s

Last year, bartenders in San Francisco, Seattle, and Portland made some of the best cocktails that have touched these lips.  I’m always on the quest to experience the best cocktails that every city I visit has to offer. At the end of the day though, I’m just fortunate to live in two cities with thriving cocktail scenes, Vancouver BC and Austin TX.

You can imagine how thrilled I was when Serious Eats brought me on to write about and photograph cocktails for their comprehensive Drinks section. What excites me the most is I’ll be covering Vancouver AND Austin since I travel constantly between the two. Best of both boozy worlds.

Above is my favourite photo from my most recent article, 5 Whiskey Cocktail Recipes from Haddingtons in Austin, Texas.  (Cocktails are such beautiful subjects to shoot.) Bacon is out, duck fat is in. Try your hand at making their signature Duck Fat Sazerac.

In the mean time, follow me on Twitter to track my coming and going. If there are any cocktail bars that you feel I must write about and photograph, even in your hometown, please drop me a line!

Hi Melody! Looking forward to seeing more. There are two placed here in Victoria that make amazing cocktails. Veneto and Classic Clives. Anytime you want to, come on over! We’ll take you down there. Talk soon!

I’ve heard lots about Clive’s but not about Veneto until now. I wonder when I’ll be able to hop over! We’ll have a cocktail and craft beer tour, deal? ;)
