And now, the recipients of our Winner’s Badge are…

My Pick:

Asparagus & Spicy Chicken Roll by Vancouver Food Addict

I’m not playing favours because this recipe is from my hometown but my props go to anyone with the dedication to shave asparagus on a mandolin. Vancouver Food Addict neatly lays out the asparagus strips to form the “nori” for his maki-inspired creation. I love how he marinates the chicken tenders in a vibrant and spicy sauce. Congrats, new food blogger, you’ve definitely won a place in my heart with this dish.

Leela’s Pick:

Asparagus bundles with bacon, panko and chili mayonnaise by Crispy Waffle

The Prize: Each winner will receive a tin of Fennel Pollen from Marx Food that I used in my recipe for Sweet Potato Dessert Dumplings with Fennel Pollen and Ginger.

“Fennel pollen is an intensely flavorful and aromatic spice. It adds a bold, yet pleasing dimension to most any dish. Fennel seeds may be a better known culinary tool, but they cannot compare to the intensity of flavor or fragrance of the pollen.

The fennel plant grows wild on the sunny inland and coastal fields of California. The flowers are hand collected at the peak of bloom, carefully dried, and screened for the pollen. It is a wild-crafted product. ”

I was hoping you wouldn’t notice but I did not enter an asparagus recipe and I’m very sorry. I’ve been swamped with trying to launch Vancouver Food Tour and left my recipe to the last minute. I couldn’t account for some trouble at home and I haven’t had access to my kitchen and equipment. Again, I apologize and trust that you understand life happens sometimes :\ Can I make it up in the next battle? Or heck, how do you want to punish me?

That was fun! Let’s do it again!
