Wild Mushroom Harvest + Giveaway!

When Leela and I announced Battle Mushrooms, I didn’t give enough details about the prizes so here it is!

The two winners will each receive: 1 package of Gourmet Dried Wild Mushrooms (Porcini, Morel, or Forest Blend) and 1 package of Wild Mushroom Gravy Mix (gluten-free), courtesy of Untamed Feast.

untamed4Eric, the man himself, scores big!

You’re probably thinking… so some company sent Mel some samples, big deal.

umm… NO. I don’t spotlight every company that sends free stuff my way (which is why you never read about my free Tassimo coffee system… eeh). In other words, I only feature my favourite things in brown paper packages tied up with string.

A basketful of juicy Porcini mushrooms

Untamed Feast is one of them. Eric Whitehead is my neighbor Sally’s brother. She introduced us because I’ve been working with a farm-to-table chef (more on that later) and Eric and his wife Michelle are exemplar forest-to-table enthusiasts.

His entire family gets their hands dirty in every step of production, from picking, to drying, to packaging.

Even his baby girl!

Eric is one of those dedicated people that I admire in the food industry because he sticks to his beliefs and is driven purely by passion. His whole family’s livelihood is dependent on this mushroom business.

These forest jewels are all picked and packaged in my own backyard on Vancouver Island and I want to share the love.

Gorgeous wild Morel mushrooms picked and dried.

Want to win some? Join Battle Mushrooms!
Here’s how.

Of course, these mushrooms are also available for purchase if you’re too afraid to join our Beet ‘n Squash You battle. Simply visit: UntamedFeast.com.

On a side note, do you know any dedicated farm or forest-to-table entrepreneurs?

Cool! This looks great! I was meaning to do the last two (I even bought a fennel bulb and actually made a napa dish), but missed the deadlines in both cases. I’ll try to see if I can get my act together for this one. :) I love veggies and I think this is a great idea!

Ah Tassimo… I didn’t like mine that much either. Too much waste!

On the mushroom battle though, I have a question. Do we have to enter a new blog entry or can we use an older one from our blog? I could make something new, but I have some fantastic wild mushroom recipes already!

Hi Elizabeth, I bet your wild mushroom recipe is amazing but it would be great to see a new recipe dedicated to our battle. You can do it! :)

I LOVE mushrooms and those look like they’re from outer space! The little girl in the basket looks adorable and so cute. I feel too intimidated, I’ve seen past competitions from gourmet chefs!

those morels look heavenly! I literally must look away… lest I take a bite out of the screen!! I love hearing about businesses like these; they’re clearly built on love, passion for the ingredients, and just good practices!

Mel, The prizes look wonderful! But how am I going to make sure I’d win again? :-) The entries for these battles are so incredible.
